Background
As a featured symposium of The 5th International Conference on Literature, Language, and Culture Development, this session examines the evolving intersection of intelligent media and cultural exchange within the following context. The rapid advancement of intelligent media technologies—such as generative AI, multimodal communication systems, and algorithmic content distribution—has reshaped global cultural flows and the ways in which civilizations understand and connect with one another. In this context, the dynamics between global cultural dissemination and the preservation of local identities have become increasingly complex. As nations expand their international communication capacities, the challenge is no longer limited to cross-cultural translation, but extends to how global audiences interpret, interact with, and co-create cultural narratives. Against this backdrop, the study of global and local cultural communication has entered a stage that requires interdisciplinary integration, combining communication studies, digital technology, linguistics, sociology, and cultural studies.
Goal/Rationale
This symposium aims to explore how intelligent media can facilitate new models of global cultural communication, enabling deeper civilizational dialogue while maintaining local cultural specificity. Current global communication systems often struggle with issues such as cultural homogenization, algorithmic bias, unequal visibility of local cultures, and challenges in cross-cultural meaning-making. These issues hinder the effectiveness of international communication, especially for cultures seeking greater global recognition.
By focusing on the synergy between intelligent media and cultural exchange, this symposium seeks to address key questions: How can AI-driven communication tools support culturally sensitive storytelling? How can global audiences better understand localized cultural content? What new frameworks can bridge cultural differences and enhance global mutual understanding? Recent advances in AI-generated content, digital humanities, big data analytics, and cross-cultural discourse studies provide new opportunities to build innovative communication models that highlight diversity, foster civilizational dialogue, and promote intercultural empathy.
